San Jose is looking to continue their strong run of play under interim head coach Alex Covelo. The only starters on Wednesday who have started at least half of the MLS games to date were Tanner Beason, Cade Cowell, Eric Remedi, and Paul Marie, while key figures like Cristian Espinoza, Jamiro Monteiro, Jeremy Ebobisse, Marcos Lopez, Jackson Yueill, and Francisco Calvo were used as late-game substitutes.

Vancouver is currently in 14th place in the Western Conference and has scored a conference-low seven goals in their nine matches to date. Seven different players have scored a single goal thus far for Whitecaps FC, including Designated Players Lucas Cavallini and Ryan Gauld. Vancouver won their most recent MLS match 1-0 over Toronto FC on May 8.

Whitecaps FC also played a midweek match, defeating Valour FC 2-0 in the Canadian Championship.
