MATCH PREVIEW: Quakes aim to stay perfect on Sunday Night Soccer vs. Sounders

Werner vs. Philly_WEB

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes return home to face the Seattle Sounders on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT and the match is presented by Audi. The first 9,000 fans through the gates will receives a Quakes x Hello Kitty Tote Bag for Hello Kitty Night.

All eyes will be on PayPal Park for the Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire broadcast, which will stream globally on Apple TV (English/Spanish) and air on local radio via KSFO 810 AM (English) and La Kaliente 1370 AM (Spanish).

The Quakes made history last Saturday not only by winning their third consecutive game to start the season—a new club record in the MLS era—but also by earning three straight shutouts in the process, which stands just one shy of the all-time record to begin a campaign. The back line, led by the center back duo Daniel Munie and Reid Roberts, along with goalkeeper Daniel, have been key to the club’s perfect defensive record.

In attack, a pair of promising partnerships have begun to take shape between Timo Werner and Ousseni Bouda, as well as Jamar Ricketts with Preston Judd. Werner has assisted Bouda in back-to-back games, netting the go-ahead goal in both, while Ricketts connected with Judd for goals in each of the first two matches. The quartet’s combination of pace and movement has consistently stretched opposing defenses and will continue to pose a threat—especially as Werner gets up to match fitness for a full 90 minutes.

Sunday’s clash also continues one of the Western Conference’s most familiar rivalries in the Heritage Cup. Meetings between the Quakes and the Sounders have often produced tightly contested games, with the last match decided by more than two goals being in 2020. Playing at PayPal Park has historically provided San Jose with an added boost. The Quakes have gone unbeaten in the last four home matchups (3-0-1), so the club will look to capitalize on their fan presence once again this weekend.

The Seattle Sounders sit three points behind San Jose and look to build on their Matchday 3 win over St. Louis CITY SC. Cristian Roldán and Albert Rusnák look to power the Rave Green’s offense once more this season, with Jesús Ferreira already supplying three assists and a familiar name featuring in their attack. Osaze De Rosario, son of former Quakes standout Dwayne De Rosario, is coming off a breakout 2025 season, scoring five goals across all competitions.

Seattle got the best of San Jose in both 2025 meetings, but the Black and Blue are determined to flip the script and kick off the 2026 Heritage Cup off on the right foot by keeping their shutout streak alive and deliver yet another result in front of a roaring home crowd to stay at the top of the table.
