MATCH RECAP: Earthquakes II 4, Real Monarchs 0

SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Earthquakes II defeated Real Monarchs 4-0 on Sunday night at Spartan Soccer Complex in MLS NEXT Pro regular-season play.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 17th minute when midfielder Nick Fernandez battled the ball past the Real Monarchs’ defense and found striker Tomo Allen who hammered home the goal. Quakes II doubled their lead in the 40th minute when forward Julian Donnery connected a pass to Allen inside the 18-yard box who found left winger Zach Bohane to send the ball into the back of the net.

San Jose kept the momentum going into the second half. In the 46th minute, halftime substitution Warren Boyce crossed the ball from outside the 18-yard box finding Bohane who secured his brace with a powerful header. The 46th-minute goal marks Bohane’s 11th of the season and extends his team lead. However, the hosts were not finished. In the 58th minute, Quakes II midfielder Nick Fernandez intercepted a missed pass from the Real Monarchs’ defense and sent it past the visitors’ keeper into the bottom left corner of the net to set the final scoreline 4-0.

At the conclusion of the match, Quakes II remains in 10th place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference and fifth place in the Pacific Division (10-11-6; 39 points). Real Monarchs remains in 11th place in the MLSNP Western Conference and sixth place in the Pacific Division (7-15-4; 29 points).

Quakes II now travels to face Whitecaps FC 2 on Sunday, Sept. 20. Kickoff from Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC, will take place at 2 p.m. PT and will be broadcast via OneFootball, as well as on MLSNEXTPro.com.
