NEWS: Earthquakes Acquire Midfielder Alfredo Morales from NYCFC

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club acquired the right of first refusal for midfielder Alfredo Morales from New York City FC in exchange for a natural third-round selection in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft. The Earthquakes subsequently signed Morales to a contract through the 2024 season with a club option for 2025.

“Alfredo brings playoff experience and knows how to win in this league,” said Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch. “I’m looking forward to have him as a veteran presence in our talented midfielder group for the 2024 season.”

Morales, 33, spent the past three years with NYCFC, helping lead the club to two playoff berths and its first Audi MLS Cup championship in 2021, where he started all four postseason matches en route to the title. In total, Morales played in 73 games across three seasons, tallying seven assists. He also made nine appearances in other competitions, including the 2022 Concacaf Champions League.

Morales originally joined NYCFC from German side Fortuna Dusseldorf on April 7, 2021. The Berlin, Germany, native earned Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga experience over 10 seasons with Dusseldorf, FC Ingolstadt 04, and his hometown Hertha Berlin.

Internationally, Morales has earned 16 caps with the United States Men’s National Team. He has also represented the U.S. at the Under-20 and Under-23 levels.
