The San Jose Earthquakes (SJEQ) 00 Pre-Academy soccer team won the prestigious 2014 Surf Cup Tournament Boys U15 Division. The U15 team beat FC Golden State 3-0 in the U15 category final with two goals by Luke Andrews and one from Daniel Sanchez. The team finished the tournament unbeaten (6-0-0) while outscoring its opponents 15-2 to claim the organization’s first championship in the international tournament.
“This ends an incredible two year journey with this team," said coach Jeff Jenkins. "We are extremely proud of the boys for this achievement. It's a great transition point for the players moving from our club team to the academy. Next they will be preparing for the Development Academy season, which begins Saturday, September 6th, with a match against East Bay United”
The Quakes had three other teams at Surf Cup. The 11s failed to get our of group while the U14 SJ Earthquakes 01 Pre-Academy lost in the Semi's to Chicago Magic PSG. Quakes affiliate East Valley Earthquakes U14 team captured the U14 Division title.
The San Diego Surf Cup is one of the top youth soccer competitions in the United States. Over 150 Olympians and 123 World Cup athletes have competed in Surf Cup's tournaments over the years and it is definitely a proving ground for soccer success. Alex Morgan, Clint Dempsey, Rachel Buehler, Carlos Bocanegra, Hope Solo and Landon Donovan all played in Surf Cup. Playing in this tournament is a hallmark of success for youth soccer players.
