Quakes defender Kip Colvey played 90 minutes for New Zealand, while Quakes goalkeeper David Bingham played the entire second half for the United States as both countries battled to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at RFK Stadium.
Colvey, 22, made his first start for the All Whites since helping his country win the OFC Nations Cup in June. The San Jose rookie proved to be a solid presence at the left back position Tuesday night, threatening in the attacking third with timely services and defending well against the speedy DeAndre Yedlin.
Bingham, 26, made his first appearance for the United States since Feb. 5 when he helped the red, white and blue secure a 1-0 shutout win against Canada at the StubHub Center. The Castro Valley native looked confident between the pipes through 45 minutes despite conceding a goal off a near post deflection.
Colvey and New Zealand now look ahead to World Cup qualification Nov. 7 against New Caledonia. As for Bingham and the United States, they now set their sights on the highly anticipated World Cup qualifier against Mexico Nov. 11 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus.
