The Quakes U-14 and U-12 Boys' Academy programs have completed their runs in the 2019 Nexen Manchester City Cup in Oceanside, Calif. The U-14s finished group play with a 1-1-1 record, highlighted by a 2-0 win over Manchester City and a 1-1 draw in a match where the Quakes initially trailed Strikers FC. The U-14s were placed in the Silver-Playoff Bracket following a second-place finish in Group A. The Quakes would go on to pick up 1-0 victories against Liga MX's Chivas and cross-town rivals De Anza Force in the Silver-Bracket quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
Following their 1-0 win over De Anza in the Silver-Bracket semifinals, the U-14s were set to face New York City FC in the finals but their results in the Silver-Bracket Playoffs landed them a showcase match against Championship-Bracket quarterfinalists FC Golden State instead. During their final match, the U-14s were down 1-0 until Randol Vila scored the equalizer during the final seconds of the match. No silverware was won following the 1-1 draw but the young Quakes found solace in their successful 3-1-2 record in the competition.
Leading into the Man City Cup, the U-12s were split into two different squads. Players born in 2007 would play in the U-12 division and the 2008 boys would compete in the U-11 division. The 07's finished in first place in group play with a record of 2-0-1, including shutout victories over Murrieta Surf (4-0) and New York City FC (1-0). The 07's fell in all three of their following matches. The 08's also finished on top of their group after defeating Murrieta Surf (10-1), San Diego Surf (8-0) and LAFC (4-0). The 08's would go on to defeat Total Futbol Academy 4-0 in the semifinals but would end up suffering a 4-2 defeat to rivals LA Galaxy in the finals.
This weekend, the U-12s have matches scheduled against the San Francisco Glens Evolution. The U-15s, the U-17s and U-19s will face Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Crossfire Premier. Times and locations for upcoming Boys' Academy matches can be found here.
